Facilities

Plant Pathology shares the Throckmorton Plant Sciences Center with the Departments of Agronomy, Horticulture and Natural Resources, and the Northeast Area Extension office. The attached greenhouses have 100,000 sq ft. and are shared among these three departments and with the Departments of Biology and Entomology.

Laboratory space is modern and well-equipped, and interaction with other departments is strong. The building is 455 ft. long, about as long as a city block and half again as long as a football field. Plant Pathology has 40,000 sq. ft. of laboratory, classroom, and office space.

In-House Labs and Facilities

We have several labs and facilities within the department that provide a variety of plant diagnostic and DNA resources to producers and researchers statewide.

Plant tissue culture, genetic transformation, and gene editing support for researchers.
Ultra-high throughput sequencing and gene expression analysis.
We primarily serve the fungal genetics research community by providing strains and other material.
The WGRC maintains a gene bank, along with evaluation and passport data, on 2,500 wheat species accessions.
Our Extension team handles plant disease samples from around the state and country, providing information on diagnosis and management.

Partner Lab and Resources

We are proud to partner with several facilities in Manhattan, Kansas, and across the country.

The mission of GPDN includes coordinated diagnostics, secure communications, and training of first detectors.
The Biosecurity Research Institute, or BRI, is the home of comprehensive infectious disease research to address threats to agriculture and public health.
